Sensory Sand

Sensory Sand

Sensory stimulation is key in the development of young children, as it allows them to explore and understand the world around them through their senses. A wonderful way to encourage this stimulation is through playing with sensory materials. These tactile experiences not only provide fun and entertainment but also spark their curiosity, promote their creativity, and contribute to their cognitive and emotional development.
In this post, we will show you how to create a very special sensory material: magic sand. This activity can be a valuable tool both at home and in an educational setting.
Materials we will need:
  • Flour
  • Sunflower oil
  • Turmeric
  • Bowl
  • Spoon
Before offering any type of material like this to children, you should consider potential allergies and intolerances.

Add 8 tablespoons of flour to the bowl.

Add turmeric or powdered food coloring and stir.

Add two tablespoons of sunflower oil.

Start mixing by opening and closing your fist so the ingredients integrate.

Once you achieve the wet sand texture and it is consistent, your sensory material is ready to use. Place it on a tray and add molds and elements for play.
